Letters from rooms that used the pages

These notes name the work that was asked for. They are not scores. One of them records a delay we caused.

Hands exchanging papers across a table

They refused to put us next to Batumi hotels, which was the whole point of writing to them. The occupancy chart for 2023 against Imereti guesthouses of similar size made the winter drop look ordinary and the September spike look like a local festival, not a miracle of management. I still read the footnote on the two houses that would not share night counts.

Tamar Kapanadze, sixteen-room house near the Rioni — metric benchmark comparison study

The cooperative wanted a yield chart for the members’ meeting. Levan sent a pencil layout that looked almost empty. We argued. He was right: three harvests on one crowded plate would have hidden the 2022 frost. The final table sat in the yearbook and nobody asked us where the picture had gone.

Giorgi Tsereteli, Imereti wine cooperative — chart and table commission

Useful sitting. Nino would not let the chair treat last year’s own cost as a benchmark, and the room went quiet in a way that helped. I wished the bound note had arrived three days earlier; the addendum on the missing February column was clear, but we had already printed an agenda that assumed the pages were in hand.

Ana Chkheidze, board secretary, Kutaisi workshop — findings briefing

We came back for the winter re-comparison because the first neighbour set still stood. The addendum was short, which I took as a kindness. Occupancy had not recovered; it had simply stopped being a mystery.

A longer account: the municipal waiting book

A Kutaisi counter kept a book of days waited for a routine permit. The clerk was told, in a training session, that the average wait in “Georgian cities” was shorter. The average mixed coastal offices with mountain offices and mixed a digital queue with a paper one.

The desk took the book for 2022 and 2023, asked three Imereti offices of similar staff size for their own counts, and received two. The third declined. The study named the refusal. The chart showed Kutaisi sitting in the middle of a very small group. The finding was not that the counter was fast. The finding was that the national remark could not be used in that room. The clerk still quotes the footnote when a visiting trainer arrives with a single average.

A longer account: the harvest that was not a trend

A cooperative asked whether litres per hectare had “fallen behind.” The series mixed a year of frost with a year of new plantings on a slope that had not yet yielded. We drew two plates: one with the frost year marked as a break, one without the new slope. The members argued for an hour and then voted to keep both plates in the file. That argument was the work. A single smooth line would have ended it too soon.
